Investigatory Powers Act – How much data should our governments hoard on us?

The Uk Government are proposing some changes to the Investigatory Powers Act (IPA), after accepting some parts of it  are “inconsistent with EU law” according to this BBC article 

The IPA governs how the British government collects and uses communications data by law enforcement agencies.

Incompatible with EU Law

However In December 2016, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that some aspects of the legislation were “incompatible with EU law”.

Following the consultation, the Secretary of State will carefully consider any representations made about the proposed response to the judgement, and what, if any, changes may be required to the draft Regulations and code of practice. The draft Regulations and code of practice will then be laid in Parliament for approval by both Houses before they can come into effect –
